Pablo Carreno Busta trionfa a Montreal

Ce l’ha fatta. Dopo tanta attesa Pablo Carreño Busta è riuscito a vincere il primo Masters 1000 della sua carriera. L’ha fatto a Montreal, in Canada, battendo in finale Hubert Hurkacz in tre set. Una autorevole rimonta, dopo il 3-6 iniziale, con due set vinti alla grande con eguale punteggio, un doppio 6-3.

Si tratta del coronamento di una settimana da sogno, iniziata con la vittoria in due set contro Matteo Berrettini e proseguita con altre eliminazioni “di lusso”: Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner, Jack Draper e in semifinale un generoso Daniel Evans.

Per lo spagnolo, che in gioventù veniva considerato un giocatore potenzialmente da Grande Slam, si tratta del successo più importante della carriera. Un successo che arriva a 31 anni, dopo sei tornei vinti finora nel circuito, il più importante del quali lo scorso anno all’Atp 500 di Amburgo.

Grazie a questa vittoria, Carreño Busta vola anche nel ranking mondiale, piazzandosi alla posizione numero 14, appena davanti al nostro Matteo Berrettini. Ora per lui si riparte da Cincinnati, dove lo attendo un impegno tutt’altro che agevole contro Miomir Kecmanovic.
