Nell’ultima giornata di Laver Cup, Alexander Zverev, uno dei protagonisti di Team Europe, è stato pesantemente fischiato durante il suo ultimo incontro di doppio con Andrey Rublev. I due europei sono riusciti ad avere la meglio sulla coppia Reilly Opelka/Denis Shapovalov.
I motivi dei fischi
Team Europe ha letteralmente dominato la Laver Cup 2021, lasciando solo una vittoria a Team World e chiudendo la terza giornata di competizione dopo appena una partita. Troppa disparità in campo, con i primi dieci giocatori del mondo tutti appartenenti alla squadra vincitrice. Motivo per cui, in molti, si stanno chiedendo se abbia senso continuare con un format simile.
L’ultima partita della competizione ha visto impegnati Sascha Zverev e Andrey Rublev per la squadra europea e Reilly Opelka e Denis Shapovalov per il resto del mondo. I due europei hanno vinto con facilità il primo set, ma nel secondo hanno concesso qualcosa in più agli avversari, tanto da perdere al tiebreak.
Proprio nel secondo parziale, complice il ritorno di Team World e qualche errore di troppo, Zverev ha gettato con rabbia la propria racchetta a terra. Una pioggia di fischi si è riversata contro il campione olimpico e i motivi potrebbero essere vari.
Sicuramente il comportamento poco sportivo e la rabbia per l’idolo di casa, Opelka, che stava perdendo, ma ci potrebbe essere un motivo extra tennistico.
La Laver Cup 2021 si è giocata al TD Garden di Boston, casa della famosa squadra di basket, i Boston Celtics. Zverev non ha mai nascosto di essere un grande tifoso dei Miami Heat, una delle rivali di Boston, e chissà che proprio questo non abbia inasprito il rapporto tra lui e il pubblico di casa.
