La Classifica (tutti i dati e le statistiche si riferiscono all’Era Open)
10 titoli, Adriano Panatta (8 terra rossa, 1 terra Har-Tru, 1 cemento indoor)
La sua vittoria più importante è sicuramente il Roland Garros del 1976, manifestazione in cui trionfò qualche giorno dopo aver vinto gli Internazionali di Roma. Curiosità: in entrambe le competizioni, al primo turno, Panatta riuscì ad annullare almeno un match point all’avversario. In particolare, nella Capitale ne cancellò ben undici a Kim Warwick (dieci in risposta). Questo doppio successo lo portò a guadagnarsi il suo best ranking alla posizione numero 4 della classifica, la migliore mai migliore raggiunta da un italiano prima: record eguagliato solo da Sinner nel 2023.
10 titoli, Jannik Sinner (5 cemento outdoor, 4 cemento indoor, 1 terra rossa)
In un anno, tra fine 2020 e fine 2021, sono arrivati i primi cinque titoli in carriera per Jannik Sinner. Il primo successo a Sofia, poi Melbourne (Atp 250), Washington (Atp 500), ancora Sofia e infine Anversa. Con la vittoria in Belgio è diventato il primo azzurro nella storia a vincere quattro titoli in un solo anno solare. Nel 2022 è arrivata a Umago la prima vittoria sulla terra battuta, a inizio 2023 il settimo sigillo sul cemento indoor di Montpellier. Poi a seguire il trionfo al Masters 1000 di Toronto e quello all’Atp 500 di Pechino, entrambi sul cemento outdoor. Di nuovo indoor è arrivato il decimo titolo, nell’Atp 500 di Vienna, in finale contro Daniil Medvedev, cosa che gli ha consentito, a soli 22 anni, di raggiungere la vetta dei tennisti italiani più vincente dell’era Open. I titoli vinti dall’altoatesino sarebbero undici se contassimo anche le Next Gen Atp Finals del 2019.
9 titoli, Fabio Fognini (8 terra rossa, 1 cemento outdoor)
Il ligure ha portato a casa sette ATP 250, un ATP 500 e un Masters 1000 (Montecarlo). Quest’ultimo, ovviamente, corrisponde al suo trofeo di maggior prestigio, che gli valse nel 2019 (insieme al quarto turno del Roland Garros) l’ingresso nella top-10 del ranking mondiale. Nel Principato, Fabio eliminò in tre set Andrej Rublëv al primo turno, dopo essersi trovato in svantaggio per 4-6, 1-4. Grazie al forfait di Gilles Simon passò agli ottavi, in cui superò il numero 3 del mondo Alexander Zverev per 7-6, 6-1. Nei quarti sconfisse in rimonta Borna Ćorić e in semifinale prevalse per 6-4, 6-2 sulla leggenda spagnola Rafa Nadal (campione in carica, undici volte vincitore del torneo e reduce da 18 successi consecutivi nella competizione). In finale trionfò con il punteggio di 6-3, 6-4 su Dušan Lajović malgrado un infortunio subito nelle fasi finali dell’incontro.
7 titoli, Matteo Berrettini (3 terra rossa, 4 erba)
Il classe’96 ha trionfato a Gstaad, Budapest, due volte a Stoccarda, a Belgrado e due volte al Queen’s. Probabilmente è sui campi dell’Atp 500 londinese che Matteo ha scritto finora le pagine migliori della sua carriera, visto che i due successi ottenuti nel 2021 e nel 2022 gli hanno consentito di entrare nel novero dei tennisti italiani più vincenti nell’era Open. Il 2023 è stato per lui un anno disastroso, ma se sta bene ha nelle corde parecchi altri successi.
6 titoli, Paolo Bertolucci (6 terra rossa)
Tutti nel circuito Grand Prix. L’anno migliore del tennista di Forte dei Marmi fu sicuramente il 1977, quando mise a segno una tripletta, diventando il primo giocatore italiano nell’Era Open a vincere tre tornei nella stessa stagione. Il 24 aprile, a Firenze, alzò il trofeo per il terzo anno di fila, sconfiggendo John Feaver. Il 15 maggio ottenne il successo più importante della sua carriera a livello individuale: conquistò il torneo di Amburgo, superando Manuel Orantes in quattro set. Bertolucci diventò il terzo tennista italiano nell’era Open a essersi aggiudicato un titolo sconfiggendo in finale un top 10. Il terzo successo dell’anno (il sesto ed ultimo in carriera) arrivò il 19 giugno a Berlino, quando ebbe la meglio su Jiří Hřebec, che si arrese in cinque set, col punteggio di 6-4, 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
5 titoli, Corrado Barazzutti (3 terra rossa, 1 sintetico, 1 cemento indoor)
Al Rolex Paris Masters (Parigi-Bercy) il suo successo più importante, ottenuto il 6 novembre del 1977. Con tale risultato, eguagliò proprio Bertolucci, portandosi anch’egli a casa il terzo trofeo della stagione dopo Bastad e Charlotte. Nello stesso anno ottenne anche una finale a Monte Carlo, una semifinale US Open e la finale di Davis.

Nella classifica generale, completano la top-10 Paolo Cané, Marco Cecchinato, Andrea Gaudenzi, Andreas Seppi e Lorenzo Sonego con 3 titoli. Un particolare appunto è doveroso farlo circa Nicola Pietrangeli, considerato il tennista italiano più forte di tutti i tempi. Questi, tra il 1955 e il 1970, è stato capace di trionfare (in singolare) in ben 44 competizioni, tra cui 2 Roland Garros.
