Poi, la luce del giovane tennista toscano si è affievolita pian piano, fino a spegnersi completamente verso la fine della stagione, terminata con sei sconfitte consecutive compresa quella in Coppa Davis con la selezione italiana.
Chiusosi il sipario sul 2023, “Muso” – sceso intanto alla piazza numero 27 della graduatoria Atp – ha deciso di aggiungere un’altra figura all’interno del suo staff, Corrado Barazzutti, nel tentativo di curare quei piccoli dettagli che finora non hanno funzionato. L’obiettivo è vivere un 2024 all’insegna del risalita. Di questo e tanto altro ancora ha parlato lo stesso giocatore di Carrara in una interessante intervista rilasciata ai microfoni di OA Sport.
Dalla crisi agli obiettivi per il 2024, parla Lorenzo Musetti
“Sono stato riempito di critiche come purtroppo accade quando si perde qualche partita di più… In Italia funziona così purtroppo”, ha detto Musetti ripercorrendo gli ultimi mesi del 2023. Poi ha spiegato le cause della sua crisi di gioco e risultati, sottolineando di non essere riuscito a trovare il suo miglior tennis “per un mix di mancanza di fiducia e stimoli”.
Passando invece all’argomento Coppa Davis, Lorenzo si è soffermato sulla sconfitta subita con Kecmanovic nell’ambito della sfida contro la Serbia e sulla sofferta vittoria ottenuta qualche ora dopo da Sinner su Nole: “Lui ha giocato una ottima partita, peccato per la mia condizione fisica finale che non mi ha aiutato a battere un avversario così in forma. Non aver portato il punto a casa mi faceva molto male e per miracolo siamo riusciti ad arrivare in finale e vincerla. Noi ci credevamo, però quando Djokovic ha avuto quei 3 match-point credo che tutti pensassero che fosse finita lì”. Già, ma è andata diversamente e Musetti potrà giovarne a livello morale: “È stata forse la vittoria più importante della mia carriera e sicuramente una iniezione di fiducia per chiudere una stagione complicata“.
Qualche tempo fa, Sinner dichiarò: «Lorenzo Musetti tecnicamente è più forte di me». I colleghi di OA Sport hanno dunque chiesto al toscano di indicare cosa gli manca per mettere insieme tutti i pezzi del suo puzzle. Il numero 2 azzurro ha risposto: “Si sa bene che con il talento e basta non si raggiunge il top. Dovrò impegnarmi di più a raggiungere una continuità maggiore durante l’anno in termini di livello e risultati”.
E non poteva mancare la domanda sul ruolo di Barazzutti all’interno dello staff: “Corrado è un allenatore di grande esperienza e crede molto nel nostro progetto, penso che possa spingermi oltre e con il lavoro insieme a Simone (Tartarini. ndr) portarmi a fare il salto di qualità”.
Infine il passaggio sulle ambizioni in termini di ranking e un aggiornamento sulla sua programmazione: “L’obiettivo per ora principale è riprendersi la top20, poi si parlerà di altro… Sud America dopo l’Australian Open? No, resterò in Europa e giocherò sul veloce”.
