Quello di oggi è stato un pomeriggio speciale per il tennis italiano. Perché è stato il pomeriggio in cui gli eroi azzurri di Coppa Davis sono stati ricevuti al Quirinale per prendersi l’omaggio del Presidente della Repubblica, Sergio Mattarella.

Grande emozione per Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Sonego, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Arnaldi e Simone Bolelli, accompagnati dal capitano non giocatore Filippo Volandri, da Matteo Berrettini e da Andrea Vavassori, finalista in doppio all’Australian Open assieme proprio a Bolelli. Nell’elegante salone del Quirinale c’erano tra gli altri il Ministro dello Sport Andrea Abodi, il Presidente del CONI Malagò e Nicola Pietrangeli.
Mattarella: “Grande spirito di squadra. Complimenti a Sinner”
“Da quello splendido 26 novembre sono trascorsi oltre due mesi ma l’entusiasmo non è diminuito”, ha sottolineato il Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella, che poi si è complimentato con ogni singolo giocatore e con Volandri definendolo “fondamentale per aver saputo suscitare quello spirito di squadra che si è visto, per aver trasmesso serenità e concentrazione anche nei momenti difficili. Complimenti per aver affiancato al valore sportivo il valore umano…”.
Mattarella, ovviamente, ha tenuto a spendere qualche parola anche per Jannik Sinner, reduce dalla cavalcata trionfale sul cemento di Melbourne: “Complimenti a Sinner per il trionfo in Australia: sono riuscito a vedere il match solo dal quarto set e questo ha giovato al mio umore…mi sono convinto subito che avrebbe vinto. Molti si attenderanno che lei vinca ovunque d’ora in avanti: quel che certo è che lei ci metterà sempre tutto l’impegno possibile”.
Binaghi: “Due anni e mezza fa dissi una cosa al presidente…”
“Quando due anni e mezzo fa la nazionale italiana di calcio campione d’Europa fu ricevuta al Quirinale insieme a Matteo Berrettini, finalista a Wimbledon, dissi: ‘Presidente, presto torneremo da lei vincitori anche noi’”, rivelato il presidente della Federazione Italiana Tennis e Padel, Angelo Binaghi, il quale in seguito ha aggiunto: “Questa emozionante giornata possa diventare una splendida consuetudine nei prossimi anni”.
Sinner: “Un onore essere qui. Alle Olimpiadi daremo il meglio”
Sinner: “E’ un grande onore essere qui, parlo non solo per me ma per tutta la squadra. Siamo ragazzi normali che, grazie anche al Capitano, sono riusciti a fare una cosa molto bella ed importante per questa nazione. A Bologna non c’ero, il supporto di Matteo (Berrettini, ndr) è stato importantissimo: a Malaga ho provato a dare il mio contributo. La cosa importante però non è stata solo vincere, ma quella di capirci e di sentirci liberi in campo. Sinner ha poi donato a Mattarella, a nome della squadra, una racchetta con un nastro tricolore e la data del 26 novembre 2023 con l’incisione “World Champions 2023”.
