Non riesce l’impresa a Fognini al primo turno dell’Atp250 di Auckland. Il ligure perde la prima partita dell’anno e si presenta all’Australian Open senza vittorie, ma con buone prospettive in vista dello slam.
Il primo set va all’italiano, ma è lui il primo a cedere il proprio servizio al quinto game. L’azzurro, però, non molla e al decimo gioco riesce a recuperare lo svantaggio e portare la sfida al tiebreak. Lì Fabio è perfetto e si porta a casa il set con il risultato di 76(2).
Il secondo parziale, al contrario, è completamente a favore di Brooskby. L’americano si porta addirittura avanti per 5 a 0 (annullando due palle del controbreak nel terzo gioco), prima di chiudere il set per 61.
Il terzo set, un po’ a sorpresa, vede Fabio partire avanti per 2 a 0, prima della rimonta di Jenson. L’allungo decisivo arriva al settimo gioco, quando Fognini, dopo aver annullato quattro palle break capitola alla quinta. Il parziale si chiude con il risultato di 63.
Fabio Fognini si aggiunge così a Lorenzo Sonego come unico azzurro senza vittorie nei tornei in preparazione all’Australian Open. Non ci resta che sperare che l’ultima settimana di allenamenti faccia arrivare buone sensazioni ai nostri ragazzi.
