L’Italia, dopo 47 anni di attesa, è di nuovo campione della Coppa Davis. I ragazzi guidati da capitan Filippo Volandri hanno ripetuto l’impresa di Adriano Panatta, Paolo Bertolucci, Corrado Barazzutti e Tonino Zugarelli (con Nicola Pietrangeli come capitano) sul cemento indoor di Malaga. Il prossimo 21 dicembre saranno ospiti del Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella.

Ieri è stato tutto perfetto a Malaga. Prima è arrivata la vittoria fondamentale e sofferta (anche se brutta) di Matteo Arnaldi con il sempre ostico Alexei Popyrin. Poi l’ennesimo capolavoro di Jannik Sinner, che ha concesso appena tre game ad Alex de Minaur. È una vittoria che arriva dal girone difficile di Bologna a settembre, con Lorenzo Sonego che salva i match point su Nicolas Jarry (saremmo stati eliminati già alla seconda giornata), e dall’impresa di sabato con la Serbia (altri match point salvati da Jannik contro il numero 1 del mondo Novak Djokovic).

Una vittoria di un gruppo straordinario: Sonego, Arnaldi, Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti e Simone Bolelli che, nonostante non sia sceso in campo, riceve quello che per gli inviati di Sky è un giustissimo premio alla carriera (che avrebbe meritato anche il suo fratello sportivo, Fabio Fognini, citato dallo stesso Simone dopo la premiazione).

È anche la vittoria di Volandri, tra scelte difficili e poco comprensibili (vedi il ripetuto utilizzo di Musetti in una superficie che non si adatta al suo gioco e a un feeling mai nato con la Davis o l’esclusione del Fogna) e le polemiche per qualche forfait di troppo. Beh, alla fine ha avuto ragione lui e ha riportato la coppa a casa dopo ben 47 anni.

Nei vari collegamenti dedicati in serata ai nostri ragazzi, c’è stato sicuramente quello di Fabio Fazio per Che tempo che fa.

Il conduttore, che stava intervistando Sinner, ha rivelato che il 21 dicembre il Presidente della Repubblica Mattarella accoglierà i ragazzi per premiarli. L’azzurro è apparso molto sorpreso della cosa e ha ammesso che non sapeva nulla prima dell’annuncio del presentatore.
