Gli altri azzurri – Sono due i giocatori nostrani finiti di un pelo fuori dal novero degli ammessi di diritto al main draw dell’Australian Open. Si tratta di Flavio Cobolli e Fabio Fognini. Il giovane romano, numero 101 al mondo, rappresenta il quarto alternate e non è per nulla escluso che stacchi il pass per il tabellone principale in virtù di qualche rinuncia. Più complicata la situazione del 36enne ligure, undicesimo alternate: quasi impossibile pensare che tanti giocatori possano dare forfait. In ogni caso, l’ex top-10 azzurro – così come eventualmente Cobolli – potrà tentare di passare per le qualificazioni.

Ranking protetto e Wild Card – Stando alle ultime notizie ufficiali, ci sono diversi giocatori che parteciperanno all’AO 2024 usufruendo del ranking protetto. Su tutti spicca il nome di Rafael Nadal, al rientro nel circuito dopo un anno esatto alle prese con i soliti problemi fisici. Ecco l’elenco completo: Rafael Nadal (664 Atp), n.°9; Marin Cilic (666 Atp) n.°21; Denis Shapovalov (109 Atp) n.°27; Milos Raonic (318 Atp) n.°33; Soonwoo Kwon (198 Atp) n.°80; Jiri Vesely (291 Atp n.°94); Attila Balazs (1030 Atp) n.°101. Ovviamente, né lo spagnolo, né il croato e né il canadese saranno teste di serie. Per quanto riguarda, invece, le Wild Card, si prospetta, come di consueto, una ampia assegnazione a marca australiana. Tra i beneficiari, però, non dovrebbe esserci Nick Kyrgios, il quale con ogni probabilità salterà il torneo. Diciamo questo perché avrebbe potuto assicurarsi un posto in tabellone sfruttando proprio il ranking protetto, ma non l’ha fatto.
