Nella serata di ieri, infatti, la coppia di coach dell’azzurro, formata da Simone Vagnozzi e Darren Cahill, è stata riconosciuta ufficialmente come vincitrice dell’Atp Awards 2023 nella categoria allenatori. Un premio meritato e dal valore autorevolissimo, se si pensa che viene assegnato in base alle votazioni proprio dei migliori coach del circuito.
Vagnozzi e Cahill, nel dettaglio, hanno inciso i loro nomi nell’albo d’oro superando la concorrenza di Bryan Shelton, papà e coach di Ben Shelton, Crig Boynton, coach di Hubert Hurkacz, e Goran Ivanisevic, coach di Novak Djokovic.
Evidentemente, si è ritenuto che la crescita esponenziale mostrata da Jannik sia qualcosa di più significativo rispetto all’exploit del giovane statunitense, al ritorno in top-10 del polacco e, soprattutto, ai successi ottenuti in tre slam e alle Atp Finals dal campione serbo. Già. Perché nelle ore successive Nole ha pubblicato un post sui social in cui, dopo essersi complimentato con la coppia che assiste l’azzurro, fa palesemente intendere che a suo avviso il premio l’avrebbe meritato un altro coach. Chi? Ovviamente Ivanisevic.
“Goran, suppongo che abbiamo bisogno di vincere 4 slam su 4 per far si che tu, forse (e dico forse), possa essere considerato coach dell’anno. Chiudere l’anno da numero 1 vincendo tre slam e le ATP Finals e aver fatto la storia di questo sport non è abbastanza, mio caro coach”, si legge sull’Instagram del nativo di Belgrado.

Come facilmente immaginabile, dopo l’uscita di Djokovic sui social è scoppiata la bufera. Oltre ai fan di Sinner, tantissimi appassionati sono letteralmente insorti contro il 24 volte campione slam, accusandolo di poca signorilità e presunzione.
“Ormai, dopo i fatti australiani, Djokovic ha rotto gli argini e non salva nemmeno la faccia mostrandosi per quello che è realmente. Possiamo parlare a tutti gli effetti di stile Djokovic”, scrive Franco. Mentre Paola commenta: “E’ un antisportivo per natura. A me piace, ma quando dice ste cose mi fa cascare le braccia. Che tristezza e che pochezza”. Duro anche il parere di Marco: “Sono basito. Incredibile come un uomo che ha raggiunto tanti successi si senta ancora cosi in debito di riconoscimenti”. E Giovanni non le manda a dire: “Dovrebbe mettere da parte l’arroganza, ha rotto con i suoi deliri di onnipotenza”.
