Cocente delusione per Daniil Medvedev agli Internazionali d’Italia 2024. Il russo, campione in carica, si è arreso al quarto turno contro l’americano Tommy Paul in poco più di un’ora di gioco. In conferenza stampa, ha ammesso di vivere un momento molto particolare.
La delusione di Daniil
Medvedev era uno dei giocatori più attesi agli Internazionali d’Italia. Il russo, che nel 2023 ha vinto a sorpresa la rassegna in finale contro Holger Rune (uscito di scena nel terzo turno con Sebastian Baez), non è riuscito a nascondere il rammarico dopo una partita pessima contro l’americano Paul (di certo non uno specialista della superficie).
Intervenuto in conferenza stampa, Daniil ha voluto sottolineare l’importanza delle prossime settimane per riprendersi e presentarsi in buona forma al Roland Garros (ultimo importante appuntamento sulla terra battuta).
“Si è stata una brutta sconfitta. Devo essere molto più forte a livello mentale, ho iniziato a calmarmi solo alla fine della partita e ormai era troppo tardi. Devo essere molto meglio di così, mi aspettavo di giocare decisamente meglio.
Favoriti al Roland Garros? Credo che basti guardare il ranking: Novak o Jannik (se giocherà). Non lo so, magari Carlos, magari io. Stefanos ha vinto a Monte Carlo e magari vincerà anche qui; quindi, potrebbe essere lui un altro favorito. Ma credo che, se Novak e Carlos giocheranno, saranno loro i probabili favoriti. Sono molto forti su quella superfice. Però siamo in un momento dell’anno in cui potrebbe vincere chiunque e questo è un bene, anche per me.
Ed è molto frustrante chiaramente, volevo giocare meglio ma cosa posso dire? Non ci sono neanche andato vicino. Voglio sfruttare questo periodo per cercare di capire come posso migliorare, cos’è successo in campo. Il problema più grande che ho con la terra rossa al momento è che ci metto troppo tempo a capire le mie sensazioni in campo. Devo imparare a sentirmi meglio fin dall’inizio. Proverò a fare del mio meglio al Roland Garros”.
