Il Capitano azzurro si è a lungo soffermato sullo storico successo in Coppa Davis, ripercorrendo le tappe della cavalcata trionfale ed affrontando il tema delle scelte.

“Sono stati giornate davvero dure, i ragazzi si sono resi disponibili sempre, per giocare sia nel singolare che nel doppio”, ha detto Volandri ripensando alla settimana trascorsa a Malaga, dove è andata in scena la fase finale della prestigiosa kermesse a squadre nazionali. “Sono arrivato che Berrettini già era protagonista mentre Musetti e Sinner stavano crescendo. Ora c’è anche Arnaldi che ha fatto un gran lavoro alle. Quando ho accettato questo incarico ritenevo che ci sarebbero voluti almeno cinque anni per costruire un team, le cose sono andate anche meglio”, ha aggiunto visibilmente soddisfatto.
L’emozioni dello storico trionfo sono state intensissime, anche grazie al supporto del pubblico nostrano, tornato ad appassionarsi al tennis dopo anni in cui aveva concentrato la sua attenzione su altri sport. “Ci siamo resi conto di quello che abbiamo fatto quando siamo rientrati in Italia, abbiamo raggiunto un risultato straordinario dopo ben 47 anni. Entri nei treni e sugli aerei e ti ricordi che tutti quanti hanno visto le nostre sfide, l’hanno vista ovunque”, ha affermato il condottiero livornese.
Nella parte finale della chiacchierata, Volandri ha affrontato il tema delle scelte evidenziando un aspetto sempre più evidente negli ultimi tempi: il tennis ha raggiunto un livello tale di popolarità che è davvero difficile mettere tutti d’accordo. “Scelte? È complicato farle, siamo dinanzi a scelte molto complicate. Il lavoro però è stato fatto prima, ho lavorato in primis sulle disponibilità: a ognuno di loro a prescindere dal ruolo nel singolare oppure nel doppio. Poi ormai ci stiamo avvicinando un po’ al calcio: se metti uno e vinci hai ragione, se metti l’altro e perdi sei un co*****e”, ha sottolineato.
