Sconfitta dolorosissima per Flavio Cobolli al secondo turno del Roland Garros. Il romano si è arreso a Holger Rune dopo aver avuto ghiotte occasioni nel quinto e decisivo parziale. In conferenza stampa, però, si è detto felice della prestazione.

Tre opportunità di break sul 4 a 4 che gli avrebbero consegnato un comodo turno di servizio per chiudere i conti. Cinque a zero e 6 a 2 durante il super tiebreak del quinto set. Tutto questo non è bastato a Cobolli per avere la meglio di Rune, apparso sempre più in difficoltà nonostante aver vinto in scioltezza i primi due parziali.
Flavio si è comunque presentato in conferenza stampa con uno spirito molto positivo, sottolineando che ha il livello per poter competere con i primi della classe.
“Lui ha già giocato forse una ventina di match del genere mentre per me era il primo. Sono orgoglioso di me quindi va bene così. Lui fino all’ultimo cerca un escamotage per rientrare in partita. Ha sempre qualche trucchetto, è una sua qualità ed è stato più bravo di me. Non meritavo di perdere e per questo mi dispiace in po’.
All’inizio mi ha messo un po’ più di pressione. Durante la pausa per pioggia ho parlato col mio team che mi ha detto di fare il mio gioco, divertirmi, consapevole che la partita poteva girare. Abbiamo parlato in modo positivo e quando sono rientrato in campo dopo la pioggia ero un altro giocatore. Con la sua palla piatta era difficile fare la palla corta. Il rovescio in generale me lo sento naturale e mi ci vado a rifugiare nei momenti difficili, ma oggi non lo sentivo molto bene e spesso guardavo l’angolo per questo motivo.
Sono contento della prestazione, ovviamente mi rode perché ci tenevo ad andare avanti. L’occasione più grande l’ho avuta sullo 0-40, 4 pari. Nel tie-break non ho avuto cali o scelte sbagliate. Lui ha più esperienza di me e sapeva che doveva farmi giocare più palle e così ha fatto. Io ho avuto un po’ di fretta. Non rimpiango nulla, sono un guerriero. Come avevo detto ho lottato e ci sono andato vicino.
Sto facendo un buon lavoro fisico. Mi sentivo bene anche al quinto set, fino alla fine della partita. Non è scontato. Non ho mai fatto partite così; trovarsi dopo tre, quattro ore a combattere e stare bene vuol dire che c’è stato un grande miglioramento. Ho limato qualche dettaglio tecnico su cui sto lavorando: sento che, quando colpisco la palla non c’è differenza tra me e loro.
È una cosa positiva per me. Lavorando così posso arrivare dove sono loro. Non so in quanto tempo, quando e perché. Però facendo le cose fatte bene e stando così in campo, prima o poi potrò stare lì. Le cose su cui sto lavorando sono: servizio, colpi in taglio, volée e back. Ora mi sento sicuro a rete, quando sono in recupero sento di poter fare giocare all’avversario una palla in più. Con la mia dote fisica è importante fargliela giocare perché il punto può girare”.
