Che non sarebbe stato un debutto semplice per Matteo Berrettini lo si era intuito già al momento del sorteggio. E, purtroppo, le sensazioni della vigilia si sono rivelate esatte: è finito al primo turno il cammino del tennista romano al Masters 1000 di Montecarlo.
Montecarlo, la corsa di Berrettini finisce all’esordio
Reduce dal trionfo all’Atp 250 di Marrakech, Berrettini si è trovato al cospetto del serbo Miomir Kecmanovic, attuale numero 66 al mondo con un best ranking alla 27. L’incontro, iniziato con oltre due ore di ritardo a causa della pioggia abbattutasi sul Principato, si è concluso con il perentorio punteggio di 6-3, 6-1 maturato in appena 1 ora e 15 minuti.
Molto in palla il nativo di Belgrado, come si prevedeva. Ma a risultare decisiva ai fini di un risultato così netto è stata la scarsa condizione fisica palesata dall’azzurro (soprattutto negli spostamenti verso destra), che ha sicuramente pagato le fatiche della scorsa settimana sulla terra marocchina.
Come si evince dai parziali, il primo set ha avuto un copione leggermente più entusiasmante, anche se Matteo è sempre stato costretto a rincorrere il suo avversario. Berrettini riprenderà la sua corsa dall’Atp 250 di Monaco di Baviera (15-22 aprile), dove è già sicuro di posto nel tabellone principale grazie ad una Wild Card concessagli dagli organizzatori. Intanto, non essendo riuscito a difendere i quarti raggiunti a Montecarlo nel 2023, perderà almeno tredici posizioni del ranking, passando dalla piazza numero 84 alla numero 97. Poco male, dal momento che da ora in avanti avrà solo da guadagnare in ottica classifica.
