Difesa del titolo dello scorso anno disastrosa per Emma Raducanu sui campi dello US Open. La britannica è stata sconfitta con un secco 63 63 dalla francese Alize Cornet, che si conferma ammazza big negli slam.

Tutti si immaginavano le difficoltà che avrebbe avuto la Raducanu nella prima stagione completa nel tour professionistico. In pochi, però, si aspettavano una caduta così netta. Emma non ha mai superato il secondo turno in ogni prova dello slam, accumulando solamente tre vittorie e quattro sconfitte. La più dolorosa è arrivata nella nottata, all’esordio nel torneo che l’aveva fatta conoscere a tutto il mondo.
A sconfiggerla è stata la “solita” Cornet, che si è dimostrata una volta di più un’avversaria in grado di poter sconfiggere chiunque. La numero 40 del mondo, solo quest’anno, ha battuto almeno una campionessa slam per major (prima di Emma si sono arrese Garbiñe Muguruza e Simona Halep all’Australian Open, Jelena Ostapenko al Roland Garros e Iga Swiatek a Wimbledon).
