Il tennista argentino nel 2019 rivelò pubblicamente di aver rifiutato un tentativo di combine, accendendo così i riflettori sul delicatissimo fenomeno dei match truccati. Un fenomeno il cui dilagare è in gran parte dovuto alle precarie condizioni economiche dei giocatori, che per tirare avanti accettano addirittura di mettere a repentaglio la propria carriera. Cosa succede invece a chi decide di denunciare?
Nessun rimpianto – La denuncia è costata carissima a Trungelliti, dal momento che fu costretto a lasciare il suo Paese per trasferirsi ad Andorra, si pensi a tutte le complicazioni – specie economiche – del caso. Ma, in una recente intervista, il sudamericano ha spiegato di non aver mai avuto rimorsi per la sua decisione: “L’ho fatto convinto. Inoltre c’era un’ingiustizia e venivano dette cose che non erano proprio vere. Ma non avrei mai pensato che includesse il prezzo che ho pagato. Pensavo che le cose fossero diverse, che il sistema fosse preparato per qualcosa del genere; mi riferisco alle istituzioni, che siano l’Associazione (Argentina de Tenis), la Federazione Internazionale, l’ATP, la TIU. Pensavo fossi consapevole della realtà che il tennis in generale stava affrontando”.
Djokovic promette: “Ci faremo sentire”
All’interno della stessa intervista, l’attuale numero 236 al mondo ci ha tenuto a ringraziare Novak Djokovic per l’attività di sostegno svolta dal serbo e dalla PTPA nei confronti dei giocatori “meno fortunati”. A sua volta, Nole, ha voluto rassicurare Trungelliti (e tutti gli altri che si trovano nella stessa condizione dell’argentino) che la sua battaglia per far valere i diritti dei tennisti andrà avanti senza tentennamenti.
“Mi dispiace per tutto quello che ha vissuto, non meritava un trattamento simile perché ha mostrato coraggio nel proteggere l’integrità di questo sport. Gli ho detto che se avesse bisogno di qualsiasi tipo di aiuto, io ci sarò sempre. Non possono permettersi un allenatore, un fisioterapista o un preparatore atletico. Continuerò a sfruttare il mio status per parlare ai media di questa situazione”.
Djokovic, in seguito, ha annunciato che la PTPA sta portando avanti iniziative e progetti i cui frutti dipenderanno dalla risposta del sistema tennistico.
