Venus Williams ha risposto recente a una sessione di Q&A con i suoi fan. Tra le domande, l’ex numero 1 del mondo ha voluto far chiarezza sui motivi della sua scelta di essere vegana e del suo rapporto con l’americano Reilly Opelka.

Venus Williams era stata vista nelle scorse settimane nel box di Reilly Opelka e questo era bastato per far scattare il gossip intorno ai due. Si era già parlato di nuova coppia del circuito e non erano ancora arrivate smentite a riguardo. Nell’ultima sessione di Q&A con i propri fan, però, Venus ha voluto chiarire di essere single.
“Fareste mai qualcosa di straordinario nella vostra vita? Per tutti voi ragazzi che mi chiedete se mi sposerei, vi rispondo con una domanda: lo farete voi? Fatemi sapere che ne pensate nel box qui in basso. Per quanto mi riguarda, io sono single e sono ancora alla ricerca di qualcuno che mi possa far pensare ad un passo simile. Fatemi sapere cosa ne pensate”.
La decisione di essere vegana
La più grande delle sorelle Williams, poi, ha voluto spiegare i motivi della scelta di essere vegana. La sette volte campionessa slam ha rivelato che dal 2011 (durante lo US Open) ha scoperto di soffrire di una malattia autoimmune (sindrome di Sjogren) e che il veganesimo l’ha aiutata molto nel suo percorso.
“Credo che negli anni si sia capito: seguo una dieta a base di piante, sono vegana. Questo significa che non voglio essere giudicata per quello che si vede nei miei piatti quando mangio. Faccio il meglio per me stessa e anche voi dovreste riuscire a non giudicare quello che mangiano gli altri. Sono voluta diventare vegana per migliorare la mia qualità di vita dopo che mi è stata diagnosticata una malattia autoimmune. Ci sono diverse motivazioni per le quali le persone diventano vegane, questa è la mia”.
