“Giocava bene a calcio, ma era gracile e lo massacravano, così ha scelto uno sport non di contatto. Il nostro rapporto rimane nel tempo. Ormai sono 17 anni che lo alleno e non è facile soprattutto per lui. Se capita che ci mandiamo a quel paese? Diciamo che ogni tanto c’è una messa a punto del rapporto. Ma non è facile per lui aver fiducia di un allenatore per così tanto tempo. Mille situazioni intorno a giocatori di questo livello non sono semplici da gestire. Ogni sconfitta finisce per essere colpa dell’allenatore secondo molti. Ma io sento di poter dare ancora qualcosa a Lorenzo e lo devo ringraziare per la fiducia. Cerco di aggiornarmi costantemente e confrontarmi con altri coach per poter dare a lui la miglior assistenza possibile”.

Ovviamente, noi giochiamo per la maggior parte dell’anno in singolo, quindi non è stato facile fare subito bene, ma fin dai primi allenamenti a Malaga abbiamo trovato il giusto feeling. Obiettivo 2024? Superare il mio best ranking di numero 21, mentre il sogno è arrivare a giocare le Atp Finals a Torino”.
